Kate Forster talks about sisters and secrets in her new novel, The Sisters.
I am thrilled to be writing for Aria. I have written several other women’s fiction books but The Sisters is my first one with Aria and was a fun and exciting book to write.
The idea to write The Sisters came from reading about heiresses and how, even with all the beauty and money in the world, they still had to fight to be heard, to be respected and to become individuals beyond their sibling relationship.
I am also fascinated by lies and secrets in families, and with this epic family story, there are plenty to be uncovered.
I always say to people I write escapist fiction set in fabulous places that deal with issues that affect all women. Shame, love, fear and ambition are something we have all felt at times in our lives.
The Sandoval sisters in my book are as alike as they are different. Each one is yearning for their father’s respect and struggling with the expectations of society and family.
There are so many successful women who have paved the way for the sisters in my book, and I wanted to explore their journey in trying to mature, find themselves and create a future beyond appearances.
I am passionate about women’s issues and highlighting the struggle for many in their daily lives. I do think many women carry the mental and physical load in their families and have so much to juggle and plan for, while trying to raise children, take care of their parents, work and more. If my books can give a woman some time for herself, entertain her, and help her see that these issues are universal, then I have succeeded in my job as an author.
I hope you enjoy reading The Sisters.
