Chineka Williams finds social media can be a real boon for self-publishing authors.

Having a support group that is rich with authors and information that is valid is important in the journey of self-publishing. This can be done through the use of many social media sites. There is so much information to be found with the click of a button. For me the support of authors through Twitter was vital. I learned a lot about useful writer websites and started lists based on things I would need to use in the future such as book cover artists and book promo.

I also learned  a lot about the self-publishing industry and many of its contacts through a group on Facebook, Chick Lit Goddesses. Through this group I found other women like me who had either successfully self-published several of their books, got offered book deals, or were preparing to self-publish.

Another Facebook group that I belong to that is informative is ChickLitChatHQ. Through the group you can see what others think of a possible book title or a book cover. Every Thursday on Twitter under the hashtag #ChickLitChat I participate in chats centred around writing, with subjects on the writing process and balancing time between writing and marketing.

Pinterest has helped me to see how some authors promote their books and even start visual boards surrounding their works. I have a visual board focused on Love Illusion that readers can look at to see what the book is all about before they read it. They can see the cars that the characters drive or even their favorite restaurants.

Writing can be a lonely world, but with the social media of today it doesn’t have to be. There is a lot of support for writers, you just have to look for it and be open to it.
